Hold What You Love...

Matilija Poppy

We all have to reckon with time and the rate at which most of our time sprints forward can be truly alarming. The more speed I live my life with- running from work to kid’s schools to home life- the faster time seems to go. Trying to slow down seems impossible and the feeling that our lives are doomed to streak by at the speed of light feels overwhelming.

But surely it’s not as hopeless as that. We may not be able to change what we need to do in a day but we can change how we go about what we need to do. Answer that email or phone call from a puddle of sunlight in your yard or outside your office building, plan the week’s dinner menu from your favorite spot to sit, make a special snack for the kids after school and chat with them about the funniest thing that happened in their day.

These are small things but they change our focus to the here and now rather than spending our present thinking about what we must do next. There is hope and a boldness to choosing to live our days like this rather than giving in to the fleet-footed and relentless Father Time.

Happy New Year to you all and may your moments this year be filled with the magic of living in the present and holding what you have with love and bold intentionality!
